I’m sure you think I’m going to talk about Warren Buffet. Well, I’m not. Sure he made himself a billionaire in the stock market, but I’m not going to talk about him.
Nope, I’m going to talk about another stock market billionaire.
Jesse Livermore. Jesse Livermore was probably one of the best traders of the stock market ever. Unlike people like W.D. Gann who were just pretenders, Jesse actually made his fortune in the market.
In 1907 he had an awesome trade. There was a panic. He made one trade. He walked away with $3,000,000.
Yeah!
But he was just getting started.
In the great stock market crash of 1929, Jesse Livermore made $100,000,000. In today’s money that would equal $1,200,000,000.00.
Impressive?
I’d say so. And there’s a reason I used Jesse Livermore as an example. We are heading into a bear market. Many people get scared of a down market.
Don’t be scared of a down market. There’s no reason to fear. Money can be made in a down market.
Really good money can be made. You just need to learn the simple techniques.
Simple things like using puts, and maybe shorting very weak companies. There isn’t anything risky about shorting a company’s stock.
It’s not more risky that buying it. It really depends on how you do it. If you short a stock that is rising really fast, that’s risky and stupid.
But shorting a stock that is dropping and the company is weak. That’s not risky. That’s smart. Jesse Livermore smart.

How much tax can I expect to pay if I gain profit from selling stocks for short time trade?
I am planning on buying Visa stock on the first day when the market opens. If the stock goes up rocket high in the first day or two, then I want to sell it and cash out some gains. If I do that how much tax do I need to pay to “uncle Sam” as short term capital gain? I am thinking of investing 20K.

A great many questions to answer all at one time.
There are many good on line brokers. Scottrade, Optionxpress, TDAmeritrade, Fidelity, Etrade, TradeKing, Sharebuilder. Their fees do vary from about $4 per transaction to about $20 for Fidelity.
You begin by applying to open an account on the internet through their website. They do require a deposit into the account before they will allow you to trade.
I do not have any favority short term stocks. All are favorite long term. In the short term there are too many random variables working on stock prices.
My favorite long term: mutual funds: IIF, CHN, TDF, SWZ, GAM, PENNX.
stocks: JNJ, MMM, BAC, MET, LOW, CHL, SAY, NVS, NWS, GGG, BLL.
They are all more or less investment grade stocks.
